Dr. Mark Barbee, D.C.

Dr. Barbee

Dr. Mark Barbee was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and attended Dimond High School where he was active in sports as well as academics. He was an honor student throughout his junior and senior years and participated in wrestling and gymnastics. Following High School graduation he entered the University of Alaska at Fairbanks and began his undergraduate education as a chemistry major, during which time he became interested in the Healing Arts.

Dr. Barbee continued his education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, working towards a degree in chemical engineering. It was during this time that he sought chiropractic treatment for a chronic wrestling injury as well as migraine headaches, which had plagued him since age twelve. He had done this as a last resort after many years of drug therapy with little results. The startling results that he quickly achieved with chiropractic treatments in reducing the migraine headaches and the chronic injury so impressed him that he immediately decided to look into becoming a Chiropractor. He was amazed that Chiropractic could be so simple and effective yet so little known. In 1979 he entered Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in December of 1982, Summa Cum Laude.

Dr. Barbee then entered into practice in Anchorage, Alaska, as an associate for 2 years with Cherrie Chiropractic and three years with Kremer Chiropractic Clinic. In February, 1989, Dr. Barbee opened the Dimond Chiropractic Center where he currently practices. During the time since his graduation he has studied extensively, completing hundreds of hours of extra curricular classes, striving to learn everything he can about Chiropractic, the World's largest alternative healing profession. Dr. Barbee has taken courses in homeopathy, electro acupuncture, electro dermal screening, herbology and naturopathy

In August of 1992, he completed a three hundred and fifty hour course in Chiropractic Orthopedics and having passed part I and part II of the Associated Chiropractic Orthopedics Board Exams, he became a diplomat in Chiropractic Orthopedics. At the present time there are only five Chiropractic Orthopedists in the State of Alaska and Dr. Barbee is the only one of three practicing in Anchorage. Dr. Barbee has also taken a special interest in sports medicine. He completed a diplomate program consisting of 100 hours of study resulting in obtaining the certified chiropractic sports physician certification in 1990.

Dr. Barbee's patients are treated for a great variety of conditions including sports injuries, automobile accidents, workers' compensation claims, as well as disc problems and other structural disorders. Dr. Barbee employs a wide variety of techniques, such as Activator, VAX-D, Kinesiology, SOT, Diversified and Pettibon techniques. Dr. Barbee feels that chiropractic is beginning to come of age and within the next twenty years will likely be a first resort for structural problems of the body, instead of a last resort. This will save the country millions of dollars in terms of preventing unnecessary surgery and chronic utilization of drugs for pain and suffering.
